Does Canada have access to my prior visa application from the United States

I was originally an international student from the United States. I were given student visas prior to December 2012, when the visa information sharing between Canada and the United States went into effect. And I entered the United States on a different visa ten years ago. If I am to apply for a study permit from Canada, would the Canadian government know about all of my previous immigration history in the United States, including the two visas that I were originally given. Please note I was never refused a US visa, or deported from the United States. So there is nothing negative in my U.S immigration history. Taking into account the fact I had a criminal record while on a student visa, I do not want the canadian government or embassy to know that I once held a student visa after the age of 18. I am concerned they would not approve my study permit application due to my US criminal convictions.

they will know about your US criminal record.

Canada and USA both share information especially the criminal records before giving out visas.

don't lie on your Canadian application, you will be fine.

You should assume Canada will know about all of your US visas and have access to any criminal record in the US.

As meagan99 said - you need to be 100% honest in your Canadian student visa application if you want to have any chance of being approved. If you don't want the Canadian government or embassy to know that you held a US student visa after the age of 18 or about your US criminal convictions, then you shouldn't apply for a Canadian student visa.

What do you mean by telling me that I will be fine by not lying on my Canadian Visa Application?
Are you saying that Canada will disregard the criminal conviction and issue me a student visa?

It depends what the criminal conviction was and how long ago.

all i want to say is that, if you lie then they will definitely reject your visa. lying or hiding is known as misrepresentation and this can even lead to a 2 year ban. u cannot hide your records unless you are in CIA or have connections if you know what i mean, but these connection you dont have otherwise you would not have asked this question in the first place.

if you don't lie then there is a chance that you may get visa.

u can attach an additional letter explaining your criminal record.

We had someone posting on this forum just last week that he was declined for a visa and the letter said it was because he did not declare that he was denied a US visa. So it seems that the US and Canada do share a lot of information.

I will be honest, it seems like you have had illegal presence in the US in addition to your criminality issues. The chances of getting a temp resident visa to Canada are somewhat slim. However, if you do not declare your issues in the US and they find out, not only will you be barred from reapplying for 2 years (misrepresenatation) but the chances of ever getting anything short of an immigrant visa in the future are close to nil

Hello guys, I am in the same boat as having record of visa overstay in US which occurred nearly five years back. Now, if I apply for a Canadian study permit for a post graduate program will I be deemed inadmissible. Please throw some light.
