Does applying for a spouse visa within Canada automatically extend stay?

Hi all,

Do you know if submitting my Spouse visa from within Canada application will allow me to stay and work in Canada while it is being processed? I am currently on an IEC program from Australia. My partner is Canadian. I am trying to determine whether i need to extend my IEC application/apply for an additional... or the Spouse application will automatically do this?

I forgot to mention, I am eligible to apply for an additional IEC visa.

IECs are not extendable and don't benefit from implied status. If you want to remain and keep working, you need to apply for another IEC.
