Does a weapons prohibition ban affect prohibition check ? I am applying for Canadian citizenship since oct 2024, test and criminality completed. Pending language, prohibition. I have a weapons prohibition ban for life issued by a judge in 2020 for a criminal harrassment charge resulting from a domestic case that was dropped after 12 month conditional discharge completed. I am unsure if prohibition check is tied to a weapons prohibition ban. Can anyone knwolegeable please help?

It's crazy that IRCC puts innocent people in background check for such a long period of time and this guy has his criminality completed without a hitch. But to the answer to your question, if your criminality is completed then you're good.

Hopefully you will work to be a good citizen and not turn out to be a scourge on society.

Thank you for your response. Far from a scoundrel. And my criminality wasn't completed without a hitch. Also, this isn't the subject matter but just to dispel wrong information, I was living with my partner, we had a joint account where money was deducted each month for a car payment. I was out of town on work when our car payment didnt go through so I called her to see what was going on and she kept rejecting my calls. I called over 10x no response. When someone shows that to the police and says they are getting unwanted calls, even if the police do not know the full side, they will deem it harrassment. That's the gist of it.
But back to the subject at hand, what is prohibition check for? I was never worried about my background/criminality check as those charges never ended in convictions and were dealt with since 2021. I am just wondering what prohibition check is since I have a wepons prohibition ban that the judge gave because my partner had told the police I was suicidal

It's everything that under the citizenship act could lead to a prohibition on becoming a citizen (for example, those questions like have you committed war crimes, human rights abuses, etc).

I do not know about weapons bans but personally would assume that if it shows up in RCMP criminal/judicial databases, it will lead to further inquiry. That might go quickly if they see what basis and decide not connected to other risks, or it may just take longer.

Thank you. Yes I did see/read about war crimes, human rights abuse and misrepresentation.
Your answer does help a bit as I went through this when I was applying for my PR in 2019. The weapons prohibition ban was part of the harrassment charge in 2020 and Immigration reopened my file and processed and gave me my PR. Fast forward to today, my RCMP sent me my criminal record that mentions the charge and the disposition of it being dropped and all that is mentioned in my gcsm notes with the officer deeming me admissible and criminality past. Maybe I am too worried because the weapons prohibition ban and the citizenship prohibition check as a word in common(prohibition)

Yes, I think the use of the same word is only coincidental in this context as common english words. Important thing is criminality passed. Perhaps the weapons prohibition will come up tangentially during the other prohibitions but I suspect if the admissible/criminality bit is done, they'll rely upon that primarily for the (other) prohibitions.
