Does a civil case conviction in the US results to inadmissibility in Canada?

My friend, a US green card holder, has been convicted for a "Breach of Contract" for not paying his credit card monthly dues for two years.

His wife sponsored him to immigrate in Canada as a permanent resident.

Will the conviction affects his immigration to Canada?

If it's a civil case, is "convicted" the correct terminology? "successfully sued" would be more appropriate. Either way, it's not a criminal offence, so it should be OK.
