Documents translated and notarized outside canada?

Hello this Canadian translator told me that all documents: marraige certificate, police background, etc must only be translated by certified translators of Canada?

Can someone please tell me this isn't true. My wife has already submitted to me translated and notarized copies of all her documents from my country back home.

Official Canadian translators don't need notarization.
