Hi all,

Hope you are well. I need some help / advice with the list of documents that I'd need to submit with my PR renewal application.

My Story : I became a Permanent resident in 2010 (I came to Canada for a few days to collect my PR) and then went back to the UK where I worked / resided with my Canadian citizen wife. Fast forward that to almost five years, we moved to Canada this past Feburary when I secured a job here. Now my PR is about to expire in early November. I filled out and paid for the online renewal form and now my predicament is that the documents I have been asked to submit as a proof of my residence in Canada include 1) Income Tax assessment, or 2) Immigration entry and exit documents (Record of movement) or 3) University transcript etc.

The thing is, since I moved to Canada only in Feb of this year, so I don't have any of these and I never went to University here to begin with. I spoke to a lawyer and he said I should be sending through my proof of residence with the Canadian spouse from the last five years (tax documents, etc.) from the UK since I resided in the UK for that time.

I am not sure what documents to submit and I don't want to go down the immigration lawyer route as I am on a budget here. I would really appreciate your help with some direction (ideally if you have been in a similar situation) or if you could point me in the right direction as to what documents to submit, that would be really appreciated.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

I can't say for sure what the CIC will do....but I'm suspecting that, because you have not fulfilled your residency requirement, you will lose your PR status before you get another card.

I stand corrected on this. I didn't read the fine print on the CIC until now re: accompanying a Canadian Citizen outside Canada.

The OP has fulfilled the residency obligation requirements by being either in Canada OR by accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse. There is absolutely no reason for him to lose his PR status.

To the OP, just supply any documents that show that you were accompanying your spouse (obviously you need to have been cohabiting). This could include joint rental agreements, bank statements, pay advice slips etc.. Basically anything that would convince CIC that you weren't living separate lives outside Canada.
