I landed in Canada last week ... now applying for my SIN card. I have the documents I need, but I wasn't issued with a permanent residence card when I landed in Montreal. The CIC website decribes this as a wallet sized plastic card ...
Can anyone give me more information about this and should I obtain this before applying for my SIN card and, I'm also guessing, my health care card?

Many thanks.

Thanks Baloo!

The CIC site is pretty ambiguous ... I quote:

You need to apply for your first Permanent Resident Card
If you are applying to immigrate to Canada, you do not need to apply for a card using the process on this page. Your Permanent Resident Card will be issued to you as part of the immigration process.

Will I have to follow the application process or will one be automatically issued to me at my Canadian mailing address?

No, you don't apply for a PR card, it was part of the "landing" process. You should get it in about 6 weeks if you gave a Canadian address.
