Hi all
I am a postdoc in biology, currently in US, with a PhD from US, looking to apply for Skilled worker immigration, going through the regular application process.
I had a couple of questions that are bothering me or I am confused about.

Q1. Do i need to submit my FBI clearance, police clearance from India and Police clearance from Switzerland ( lived there for 1 year) at the time of application. I am confused because the website says you have to submit but then it says if the clearance in more than 6 months old they will ask for it again. SO if the consulate takes more than 6 months to look at the application then I will have to spend money and time to get these clearances again???

Q2. Do I need to take an IELTS exam before applying? Again the website says you have to submit the score but then the score is valid only for 1 year. what do i do in that case. Taking the exam is no problem but when is the best time to take it. I dont want to spend $300 twice ...

Q3 Is it required for my wife to take the IELTS exam too. Its not a problem for her. She can take it too but is it necessary?

Thank you for your help

HI,

Q1. If you are applying through “Simplified application process” than you are not allowed to submit any document without only the application form and proof of payment for visa processing fee (550 $) (Check/ Bank draft etc.) They will ask for the necessary documents later once they start processing your file.

Q2. According to most of the sources, ILTS is mandatory. It’s better to take the ILTS after 2 years of submitting the application (From Bangladesh, average processing time is around 3 years).

Q3. I don’t think that it is mandatory.

Thanks

AK

Thank you AK

I should have mentioned earlier, from what I gathered I cannot apply for simplified appli. process since I am a in the US and will go through the buffalo office. My question for more oriented towards the regular application process.

For the IELTS I would imagine that two years would be a long time to wait. I am looking to apply within months, depending on the FBI clearance.

FBI or Police clearance has expiration date, so I suggest you apply for this document whenever the CIC ask for it. Normally, CIC will give you 90 to 120 days to produce this document.

Take an IELTS exam if CIC request it from you. You might have a good chance to waive because of your higher education.

If your the principal applicant, your wife is not required to take the IELTS.
Thank you for your help
Please see my respond in italic. You should apply as FSW because of the nature of your work and being in the US, the processing time is a little bit faster. Hope this help.

From my experience I can tell that if your first language is not English, they require you to take IELTS. May be in some conditions they might waive it, but this hasn't been the case in last 2 years.

GOOD LUCK.
