Document Request, please help

Hi we've been requested some document and I wish someone could help me with this doubt I got.

VO requested for my husband's, who is my Canadian Sponsor, birth certificate (a copy of it), we didn't send it with the application because I thought the passport would be enough to prove he is a Canadian Citizen by birth.

People said it's normal they ask for that and it has happened before.

I have some questions which I hope someone can help me with, because in CIC website I can't find the info:

Is it normal we've been requested with this? It's just a matter of proving my husband is a Canadian Citizen?

Does it have to be the long form Birth Certificate? Is it Ok if I just sent a photocopy of his short form (wallet-size=) one? Because some peplo said they sent this along with the application and it was ok.

Please I need help with this because my husband doesn't have the long form one so we would have to order one ???

I'm Canadian and I sponsored my husband. We sent a copy of the short wallet sized version of my birth certificate. They didn't request anything further, so that must be ok. We got a certified copy of it made, but I think that was probably overkill.

Yes, we also only sent the wallet size birth certificate for my husband, and it was not certified and it was fine as well.
