Document expiry dates

Hi there, I'm struggling to find an answer to this question.

On the application form it asks for the expiry date of my passport, do I put the date inside my passport document or the date my renewed passport was activated if they overlapped, which I presume would expire my old one?

I was in the exact same situation. I put the expiry date on my passport even though the passport was cancelled before its expiry date - cancelled on the date a new one was issued to me. Yes the dates ovelapped.

I then wrote a short note to explain the reason for the overlap. Had no problem, not even at citizenship interview. I'm already a citizen.
