Number 14 of the document checklist says, "Photo copy of your marriage certificate, if u have a co-signer and he/she is your spouse." In this section should I put "N/A" since there is no co-signer and include my marriage certificate in the proof of relationship question?

I'm organizing all the papers and proof and need help to make sure I don't make a silly mistake on this!

Help please!

Thank you.

no need to put N/A just do not put a tick on it after you print it. And no need to attach anything.

I know someone who did not put N/A next to the questions that were not applicable and their entire application was sent back to them. Since it was left blank, CIC viewed that the question(s) was skipped and they required an 'answer' even if it is N/A.

I have N/A'd everything! Even the grayed out areas on the forms! That is exactly what i would like to avoid.

Great - that's what I always advise folks to do :)

:( I always advise people to n/a blanks that aren't applicable or add explanations to avoid this scenario. They used to do that for economic class applicants consistently and have been more lenient with family class (giving folks a chance to update the forms) but over time have also been getting stricter with returns. So, folks it's worth the extra effort when you print out your forms to avoid any misunderstandings!

Oops, I didn't even realise that the checklist must be included in the application! I thought it was just to help the applicants to work out what to include. The checklist does not include itself on the list, after all. So I'm guessing we need to include both the sponsor checklist and the applicant checklist. Form 5491 checklist and Appendix A checklist? The more checklists the merrier? :)

Actually, I think it states in the guide to include the document checklist. This is important for the visa officer because it helps them to make sure all documents have been included. You should order everything according to the checklist. I put the document checklist on top with all IMM forms attached to it. I have been approved as my wife's sponsor, so I assume I did it right.

Now it's just a matter of waiting for stage 2 approval. AOR received from the visa office...hopefully they'll send a passport request by the end of this year.

Thanks Fencesitter. I'm sure you did everything right. I'm often completely confused which guide is being referred to, as we have two we are using - the sponsorship guide and the country-specific instructions. I wish they would just number these as well so it was absolutely clear. I just checked the country-specific instructions again and it states there that Appendix A checklist needs to be included in the application. So that does mean two checklists. At least for people from my part of the world.

If filling out the documents on the computer - if I click no, it automatically grays out the section, and I cannot type NA in that spot.
When I print the documents off - should I still write NA?

I included both - just to be on the safe side.

In terms of filling out the electronic forms, I didn't then write NA on the greyed out sections - but I am sure some people have done so.

Indeed, both checklists should be included.

Best practice is not to leave any blanks. For economic applicants, CIC has been known to reject applications with blanks. On the family side, this hasn't been an issue to date but someone reported just a couple days ago that they knew someone's who got sent back so the tide may be shifting.
