I am in process of gathering all documents. For PCC from India, Indian embassy asks for original passport and they take like 45 days to process. I am planning to visit India next month. I wanted to know if I can just send notarized copy of passport instead originals. I dont care about the stamp they put on the passport.

Are u sure?

I took a PCC from Indian High Commission for my stay in India in the past. I just needed to SHOW the passport and give them a photocopy.

To get things done from Indian diplomatic staff, is very difficult though.

Oh yes... they take more than 45 days to process.

I took the PCC from Indian HC in Colombo. I appeared in person.

Is there any possibility for u to appear in person for this? Because, they need to see the passport. I'm sure they will not retain it. Why don't you call up the high commission to confirm this? You might have to send a return airwaybill if ur mailing the passport.

Hi,

You should give your passport and photographs with an application to the embassy/consulate where you are currently residing. If your current passport is issued from that embassy/consulate, you will get the PCC within a week. If not minimum 45 days required. Once you submit the original passport, the embassy has the discretion to retain the passport or to return it immediately. If you are a non resident, you have to get the PCC from the respective Indian embassy/consulate. If you are trying to apply in India, it may take more time, and perhaps they may not issue one, being the reason that you are a NRI. So, it is better you get the PCC from the embassy/consulate.

Hi,

i applied my PCC from india through indian embassy,SFO,USA.they asked me to send filled forms, cheque and notarized passport copies as the process takes more than 30 days.
once they get the clearance to issue us the PCC they called us and asked to send original passport.i sent it through UPS with return label so that i can track it easily.
i hope this information works to you also.

Hi

If your Embassy is Washington, you need to submit the original Passport. You will get back along with the PCC. In case of emergecy, you can collect and re-submit.
