It's better to get it done professionally as the photographer would be able to fulfill the exact requirements by IRCC!

But I don’t see it in list of docs required in application ? Can you please share where does it ask for picture ? Because I did it last time
(As it’s my second time applying for my parent’s visit visa other one expired )

I think IRCC won't do anything with the uploaded photo, and I used photos more than 6 months old.
Your visa or permit will not have a photo, and a photo is collected with fingerprints anyway. I don't really understand why they still require a photo to be uploaded.

Yes, if the OP already has a photo it can be cropped up accordingly. However, if the OP doesn't have, better to just get it taken.
