Do we get exchanged driving license same day

I am glad you are almost ready with the PR Process. You should be getting good news within the next 4-12 weeks. Depending on how fast they work on UK.

In my case, once I got the MR, and have them done, it took 49 days to get our visa. One thing that worked on our favor was the fact that Santo Domingo was handling our case.

Since I was living there, I was able to go in person every time they requested any document. By doing this, our case would move faster.
On August 22 2011, I received an e-mail requesting me to come with my family passports. I went to the embassy three days later and the very same day, I got my PR Visas...

It depends on your Visa Center.

At first, I didn't understand this. Luckly, I found out myself when my time came.

I went there at 9:00 am, gave them my Passports, got a ticket, and I was told to come back at 3:00 PM. And there they were, ready. I even had them to redo one on my visas, because they misspelled on of my children name. Waited another 10 minutes...

While waitiing for the passports, I decided to buy the Airfares... 8 days later, on the air...

You are wrong on this. I exchanged my UK full DL (less than a year) for an Alberta one and then got the 13 years experience on the licence from my home country (no reciprocal agreement btw) credited onto my Alberta driving record. Got very low insurance quote as a result of this!

Ohhh that new to me as I thought they won't give you full Canada provide licence if UK licence less then 2 year .

Do I need to bring driving history from India to get 10+ year experience as my UK licence is just over 5 year. Esp wife who got 11 year old Indian licence but UK licence just 3 year old.
Can I please email me sample of driver record if any we needed from India?

I can definitely imagine if I get driving licence with such experience then definitely it will be huge benefits on insurance premium.

Alberta will exchange a UK full DL that is less than 2 years for what is called a GDL (Graduated Driver Licence). The GDL allows you to drive on your own with only a few restrictions (check http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType47/Production/graduateddriverlic.pdf).

Every province has its own regulations. Please check their own website.

I am glad Alberta is more flexible with our past DL record. Ontario is very tough.

Friend thanks for your reply.

Lot of time I feel to move alberta, get DL with long experience (by changing UK one but getting benefits of India one too)
Get medical card, bank account, PR card, sin number etc. And stay in Alberta for 3-4 month giving try for good job, as staying in Alberta. Looks cheaper then in other prov for newcomers.

Plus as I and my wife both are in regulated occupation so it will take 2_3 month for our credentials to get accredited.

If by that time get job in Alberta then it's good else moved to BC or Ontario.

As much I understand we get medical coverage after approx 90 day waiting periods but till that time we will be covered by our Alberta medical cover even in BC or Ontario.

And if alberta give us DL with 10 plus year experience(6 year UK and 10-11) year India experience then that can get exchanged in other prov with same number of year experience. As I feel that we will better off in insurance by atleast 3-4k in year on 2 cars if that's the case.

Sometimes I feel first couple of months will be our zero period just understanding Canada and staying in Alberta for first few month will definitely help us as new immigrants.

Just remember, that the future belongs to you. Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, no problem at all. 1-2, 5-10 years DL, no big deal.
I am very confident you will do great in Alberta that you even stay there, if not, you can always move to wherever you think is best for you.

You will love Canada.

I am in debt with this website. When I filled my PR Application, I didn't have any clue about the process. I though it was easy... Those periods of anxiety are very difficult to handle. At one point, 8 months passed by, and I didn't hear a word from CIC. I was somehow desperate. I imagine those who have waited years without hearing from CIC. My heart is with them.

I live in Ontario, I came last september but it was until november that I settled down. I have a short contract as a Project Coordinator, but at least I have some Canadian experience already. hahaha. I also, took a Business- Language Training Program to upgrade language and communication skills.
