Do I need valid passport to apply for canadian citizenship application

I am going to apply for Canada citizenship next month. I am a PR holder since 2010 and since then I did not travel and my passport has expired in 2012. my question is do I need valid passport to apply for canadia citizenship does any one can help me by providing information

Hi Samin,

you have to provide them with a copy of the expired passport and try to bring any document from your embassy to clarify that you didn`t renew it, just to be in the save side

Yes, you can apply with an expired passport and more than that you can apply even if one of the passports is missing. That's not the question you should ask. The issue is they MAY think you had another passport(since your last one expired) and you re hiding it because you don't wanna declare some absences from Canada. They wanna make sure you really didn't renew your passport since it expired and that will take some time and maybe some more documents to prove you were indeed in Canada.

Did you get your citizenship? did they ask any explanation letter or returned your application anything because i will be qualify on August 11 and my passport will expire on September 11 but i am not thinking about renew or extension until i get Canadian Passport.

I applied with an expired passport and no one queried anything. I'm a Canadian citizen now..

when did you apply? could you type your timeline and my passport is going to expire a month after my qualify date.

I applied in October 2017 and it expired in 2014. To be fair and honest, I also have another passport that was valid at the time of application.

I don't understand, another passport means renewed passport of same country?

No..I was already holding 2 passports from different countries..now with the Canadian I have 3
