Do I need to see 'Passport received' message in MyCiC?

Hi,
I sent my passport to General Consulate of Canada in NewYork (after getting online application confirmation and and after receiving original passport request letter.) I also tracked my package and sure that they received it but still I cannot see any new messages in my account. Is it normal?
Does anybody know how much should I wait under normal conditions? I am worrying because I am an exchange student in NY and deadline for my J-1 visa in USA is 31th December.

I dont believe you will see any such notice. as far as i can tell, if you apply online, the initial approval is done by the processing center in Ottawa and the file sent to your local High commission.

No futher update will be done on the CIC portal even up until the visa is issued.
I have an application which is now completed but nothing as changed so far on the portal
