Hi everybody !
I am Canadian Citizen and I am about to graduate from university in June. I havent had a job yet. But I am planning to get married in September. According to official government's website, I have to provide financial support for my spouse in order to sponsor him. However, I just read a bunch of info online and some of them refer that I dont have to have an income to sponsor my spouse. This is the first time I apply for this so Its kinnda confusing to me!
Please explain this to me, thank you so much !

I called CIC at one point and they told me that as a male sponsor you do not need to prove a certain minimum income in order to sponsor your wife. You do however need your option C.

You don't need to have income to sponsor your spouse, but you do need to show how you intend to support your spouse in Canada since you are financially responsible for him. There's no specification about gender.

If you do not have income, you have to show that you are looking for a job or you have family and friends willing to help financially. You cannot be on welfare as a sponsor.

You may not have to prove such support but how are you going to support yourself and a wife without it?... That could very well what the officer might think himself/herself. Meaning, it would be a good idea to think what to explain.

no need to prove financial support to your spouse and you don't need to have an income to be able to sponsor as long as you are not on welfare, however, taken into considerations, how can you provide your family when you don't have an income?

My wife had just graduated from university when we got married. She had to wait till she had a job and held it for at least three months. Thereafter we begun the sponsorship application.
You may want to do the same to avoid setbacks arising from the financial support question.

Hello there mikem, your wife can still sponsor you if you both provide the information and plan as to who will be making contributions and how this support will look. If as you say, your wife's family will be supporting both of you then include a letter written by her parents stating that you will be living with them and they will be taking care of the expenses (food, accommodation, utilities etc.).

Be very detailed and have copies of information from them including notices of assessments, mortgage, lease, credit/banking/savings information etc. If you and your wife have any savings that you will contribute then include proof of that. If one or both of you will start working full time or part time during the time of your application include proof of that or at least demonstrate you have a plan in place. If you and your wife intend to repay her parents or this is considered a wedding gift or family help for newlyweds, then discuss that in your application. As long as no one is receiving social assistance and you have a viable plan then it should be accepted by CIC.

There is another topic on the forum relating to this (students married and submitted a PR application) and the situation was very similar and those folks had no problem. I do not remember where the posts are located but search the forum or do some Googling and you should find more info. Blessings.

How long does the sponsor need to be working in Canada to be able to get an option C printout? My wife has only been here for 3 months, so I guess she won't be able to get one. Hope that doesn't create issues for our application

That should be fine. Just make sure she includes an explanation of why she doesn't have it.
