Do I need to pay for work permit fees if I am paying for PR fees already?

I am sponsoring my partner under common-law.
He currently lives with me in Canada on a temporary work permit.

we are paying the fees for permanent residence on the application but have to apply for a work visa too? do i have to pay both sets of fees?

Also once the application is submitted can we update his work visa whilst the application is processing? His current visa expires in October and the application won't be approved by then.

Yes - you have to pay separate work permit fees and submit an OWP application when you submit the inland sponsorship application. The additional fees & application are required in order for the OWP to be issued. You want the OWP to be issued for two reasons: (1) to keep him in status in Canada while you wait for the sponsorship application to be processed; (2) to allow him to continue working beyond the expiry of his current work permit.

Thank you! Is there a way to keep working if the work permit isn't processed by October? Or will he lose his job?

The way to keep working is to include an OWP application and the OWP fees along with the inland spousal sponsorship application.

perfect! two last questions if it's not to much hassle,

Question 3 on IM 5710 is asking,

I am applying for one of more of the following:
- apply for work permit with the same employer
- apply for a work permit for the first time or with a new employer
- restore my status as a worker
- get a new temporary resident permit

He is currently on the IEC (international experience canada 2 year work travel visa) which option should we select? since none of them really make sense.

and is there a good link to the payment window for the work permit fees we keep going round in circles!?

Would he have implied status with an IEC and be able to keep on working? I didn’t think that was possible but @scylla is more knowledgeable than I am.

I Know extending the IEC visa to a work permit is usually not possible but I'm not sure in this case when Perm Residence is being applied for.
