Hi there,

I am from England and have just got an LMO for a job in Canada. Now I have done this temporary work permit before, I worked in Canada previously until I had to be laid off.

So I am going to be applying for a new temporary work permit, and will need to get police certificates again, does anyone know if I will also now have to get a police certificate for Canada as well, seeing as i lived there for over 6 months?

Thanks,

James

No, CIC/CHC will do a name check on CPIC and if nothing comes up, then they won't request a Police Report from Canada. If there is a person with a similar name and age, then they will request an RCMP police check. Sorry to say, it takes 120 days to process paper prints. If you were in Canada, it can be done digitally in 72 hours.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking about applying for the work permit at the POE, just to get there quicker. Do you think that there will be any problems if i did that and they did find someone on their system with a similar name and age... do you think i would be turned back?

I am actually in Canada right now for the next 12 days, so do you think it will be worthwhile me doing the police check just in case... I have found a place near me that does the 72 hours service?

Thanks again for your time :)
