hi all,
just a quick question if i still need to apply for another temporary resident visa in my spousal open work permit application which we intend to submit along with my husband's bridging open work permit.

i am still in my home country outside canada and currently holding a valid visitor visa for four years, which i think is already a temporary resident visa? or i have to apply for worker visa instead?

please enlighten me , any feedback is highly appreciated. thanks.

Typically if you are not from a visa-exempt country - an application for a work permit will include with it a TRV. You do not have to apply for the visa separately from the work permit. The only difference is the type (for a visitor it is V-1, worker is W-1). Whether to give you a new TRV with type W-1 or not (because you have a current TRV that can be used) will be up to CIC; most likely you will be given another one - the type (W-1) which indicates that you should be processed as a worker (to be issued an OWP) when you arrive at the PoE.

thank you ragluf for that detailed and informative reply.

one more thing though, we intend to apply online (for processing time efficiency), so does it mean we have to do it by mail instead, because i need to submit my original passport, in case CIC decides to issue another TRV?

thanks again

I suggest you go through the online questionnaire first - http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp. If it comes up you are eligible for an Open Work Permit (Outside Canada) likely is you will receive further instructions on when to submit your PPs. Normally WPs are applied at a VO especially if outside Canada - and one of the reasons for that is the need to affix visa counterfoils to PPs of applicants from visa-exempt countries. The original PP is part of the application and forms submitted to the VO in a work permit application.

For the online process, you will have to wait for the next set of instructions after uploading the online application. Either you will get a message to submit the PPs at a VO or submit them at a VAC. Refer to the latest processing times for WPs in the CIC webpage for guidance if you have questions on processing times for WPs.
