Hi Everyone,

I am Indian by origin and working outside India for last 5 years. I am just planning to claim 8 points for language, do I still need to appear for IELTS?

Thanks in advance,

Seatac

99% of all applicants who have not given IELTS are asked again to appear for the test. This is a 6 - 8 month process ie: you send your application .. it takes them 3 months to get back on this .. you get your ilets exam in 1 month .. another month to get the results and sending back .. again in a 3 month queue. So better to give the IELTS and be done with it.

I have seen most of the people from India writing mother tongue as English .. but even that will not help tho it is somewhat true.

Except that after April 10th, you send no proof of your language you will get 0 points. Read http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2010/ob166.asp

Hi,
YES.
" “The language requirements themselves have not changed,” said Minister Kenney. “But beginning April 10, 2010, prospective immigrants will be required to prove their English and French language abilities at the time they apply. This requirement supports our commitment to fast, fair and efficient application processing.”

Please read this news release: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2010/2010-03-10.asp

Yes, if you are applying after April 10, 2010 you need to prove IELTS score in order to attain maximum points.

The answer is YES...if your native language is not english. There are two choices to claim points for proficieny in english language - either by evidence i.e. proving in writing with due documentary support - this is subjective and results may be disappointing or by facing one of the benchmark tests...of these IELTS is most common.

Hope it helps.
