Do I need a Police certificate ? haven't been anywhere but Canada since 18

Thanks for taking time to see my post.

I haven't been anywhere other than Canada since 18, do I need to get any police certificate ?

Here is what is says on the website :

Police certificates

You and your family members who are 18 years of age and older and are not permanent residents or Canadian citizens must provide:

valid police certificate, or
police clearance, or
record of no information.
These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

As the text says, if you haven't been outside of Canada for more than 6 months after 18th birthday, you don't need police certificate. That's what I understand from it. Though I haven't applied myself so hopefully some expert here can explain more.

(Just to make thing a bit more complicated..)
However, what if I have been outside Canada more than 6 months total, but never consecutively? Do I need police check? That's my situation (while I was in university I went home for 4 months in summer terms twice)

this is from CIC official website for police verification certificate . I hope this clears your doubt

You can try writing a letter of explanation, (I am not providing any police certificates because...). But don't be surprised if CIC requests one anyway for your country of citizenship.

Hi

CIC will ask for a RCMP certificate for Canada.

You will be covered under this as far as CIC are concerned if you have not left Canada for more than 6 months since the age of 18.

Thank you all very much.

I think I will submit my application with an explanation why no PC is included. If later they need one from my origin country, I will get that.
and will post it here to let people in the same situation know.
