Trying to apply for a working visa to Canada, move & work for 2 years and use the experience to apply for permanent residency. I'm literally stuck on page one.....
Literally on the 'find out if your eligible to apply' page
the question on what type of work permit I need???...... I don't know?? I thought they'd tell me??
I'm a well experienced interior designer with the hopes of going over there and getting a full time job with a company and my partner is a self employed machine operator (excavator) on construction sites......neither of us have jobs lined up we're planning on doing a bit of travelling first.
After much research I still don't know if I need a LMIA work permit or not, so I selected yes and now they're asking does my LMIA indicate if I need to become a member of a professional association.....
LADS!!! I just want a frickin visa!! I don't know?? Whats a LMIA is that something else now I need to apply for!
Why do they make it so hard!!

In order for you and your partner to work in Canada, you will have to get a job offer from a Canadian company and a approved Labour Market Impact Assessment or most commonly known as LMIA. You must first obtain a job offer first then have your prospective employer apply for LMIA which will cost $1000 and 4 to 6 months processing time. This is not a guarantee approval. There are higher chances of refusal always when applying for LMIA but you can try your luck.

Once you obtain a LMIA, then you can apply for a closed work permit which ties you to the employer who had obtain a LMIA for you so you cannot quit your job and work for a different employer.

Seeing as you are from UK, I would suggest you apply for a WHV or Working Holiday Visa.

Provided you are a UK passport holder and are 30 or under, you should submit a profile to be considered for a working holiday visa. There are far more individuals looking to be selected than spots available for the UK - so no guarantee you will be picked. Details here on how to submit a profile and then hope you are selected:

The IEC visa does not allow you to take a spouse / common law partner with you. So your partner would have to apply for one as well (if they qualify).

OMG lads! I think I figured it out!! Feck sake! The eligibility section that says 'why do you want to come to Canada' I selected work, but down the very end was IEC- work and travel, thats where I was going wrong!!! So selecting work brings you somewhere else entirely!!! Duh! I feel like a dope! Thanks guys! I will no doubt be back to ask more questions!

If you hold an Irish passport - apply through the Irish stream rather than UK.
