Hi,

My father is currently in the process of getting our permanent residency (coming from USA) and we've lived up here for 15 years under his work visa. I'm going into university in B.C. and I'll have to pay international fees and wanted to know once we get our approval for medical if I can show my university that we are becoming residence so I won't have to pay international fees.

Thanks

Request for medicals is not a guarantee that you will obtain permanent resident status. You may stand a better chance if you receive your confirmation of permanent residence but are yet to land.

Based on the timelines on the forum so far, it appears to be around 6 months(or less) for CEC applicants from submission to passport request(especially for those whose files were transferred to CPP-Ottawa). This is assuming everything is ok from the start.
It doesn't hurt to ask your university though but I doubt they will want to part with the extra $$ you pay.lol

You may want to compare differential fees in other provinces. Last I checked, differential fees at UBC is $6000 extra per semester. Quebec has agreements with some countries(check if the US is one) wherein after living there for one year and in good academic standing, students from these countries can apply to waive their differential fees. ;D I am eligible for this waiver, that's how I know. Also, if you hold a French passport or have a parent who is French, decide to major in French or take your studies in French, you may be able waive this fee too.

Did any of your parents study at a Canadian university? If so, and you attend the same university, ask them if you are eligible for a half tuition discount. I attended university on the east coast and knew 2 sisters who only paid half tuition because their mom attended the same university. These perks are not advertised so you have to ask.
