Do I get my application returned to me if it was refused?

Hi all, the VO refused our application because I left Canada for a while before a decision was made. Now that I am back and won't be flying out anytime soon, I am thinking of just reapplying, will I get my application back in my mailbox?

I've tried to google but found no information about it.

No, they won't return the app.

As a PR you are required to remain in Canada during processing and anything longer than a 2 or 3 week absence from Canada will likely trigger a refusal.

You can reapply at any time.

Is there any way to get the previously submitted documents? We sent through some witnessed Statutory Declarations from our common friends to prove our relationship, so I can resend them or if they already have it in file we do not need to resend them?

You can request a complete copy of your application through eCas (I believe). You can request a digital copy, or hard copies.

Every application submitted is digitized by CIC, so that information can be transferred internally, electronically.


While a digital copy of everything will be faster and perhaps easier for CIC to provide, it would not [obviously] have the original signatures on forms/documents that required signature(s). I don't know how long CIC retains hard copies (originals), especially for those whose application has been refused. I suggest (ug...) calling them to find out.

Last time I was looking at the ATIP/PA request form they had the option to request the complete case.
