Do higher points make you more likely to be approved?

Hi folks! I'm hoping to apply under self-employed, which apparently I only need 35 points for. I should easily reach that amount through Age, experience, education. Should I try to max out my points anyway, by taking English and French tests, even though I'm obviously a native English speaker? I'm just wondering if higher points make you more likely to be approved, or if once you've hit the minimum criteria, everything else is gravy?

points are irrelevant in the self employed or entrepreneur stream, that's why the pass mark is so low.
the actual sucess rate is based on the visa officer's view of your value.
