DLI change situation

Hello i am an international student who arrived in canada recently. I underwent my full semester at a DLI this fall 2021 [paid tuition and eveything] but due to family situation and cost, i Chnaged my DLI yesterday

i’ve only been is that enough? i’ve only been in canada for about 5/6 days but i’ve been actively studying? Is what i did okay?

Yes, they need a new study permit.

IRCC changed the rules last year. Your permit was approved based on your original DLI and program. Now you have to actively study at the DLI on your permit for at least a semester (or year) and then you can change. The reason is that many people got admission to say, a masters, and then came to Canada and changed to a diploma program at a college.

The option to change a DLI can only be used if someone has already complete at least a semester of studies in Canada at their original school. If someone wants to change to a new DLI without ever studying at their original school then a new study permit is required.

my friend did that and he even got study permit extension and work permit too

IRCC only changed this rule recently. Your friend would have fallen under the old rules.
