Discussing Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship 2021 - 2022

Hi folks,

So it seems that for 2021, they won't allow any new expressions of "interest to sponsor"... I missed the 2020 "interest to sponsor" and was hoping to do it this year. So the news came as a shock. Anyone in the same boat care to share some speculations for 2022? We could also use this thread to discuss other topics related to PGP 2021 - 2022.

There is certainly going to be a draw this year. It's going to take place in September. However it's going to be taken out of the 2020 applicant pool. No new applicants are being accepted for the draw this year.

If you mean that you didn't enter the 2020 draw, then yes, you'll need to wait until 2022.

If you mean that you were in the 2020 draw but weren't picked, then you are automatically in the 2021 draw.

thank you for spotting my incorrect wording. I meant "interest to sponsor". There is going to be a new draw in 2021 but that is for 2020 folks. I wish them luck!

Can’t speculate on 2022 when the 2021 draw hasn’t even happened.

Hard to speculate. Assume the upcoming draw was thrown together to make sure a draw happens before the election. Next year partially depends on the result of the election but before covid there was an announcement that changes were being made to the program. With such a high demand one can only assume that some sort of prioritization scheme will be put into place likely prioritizing the people who have applied or qualified for the longest period of time. With even higher immigration yearly targets and Canada’s ageing population the need will always exceed the number of spots that Canada can accept so making sure that those who have been applying the longest get priority likely makes sense versus random draws where someone may never get selected. The government also needs to clarify that parent sponsorship is never guaranteed but especially not after 3 years. Most make plans expecting to sponsor a parent after 3 years but the reality is much different.

2) Is this implies that the draw being taken out of 2020 applicants pool will be 40000?

3) When expression of "INTEREST TO SPONSOR" for eligible applicants for the year 2021 will be called?

There is no interest to sponsor form for 2021. They 2021 draw will be conducted from the remaining entries in the 2020 pool.

1) No. The 2021 draw will be 30K. The 2021 draw will be taken from the remaining entries from 2020.

2) Technically yes.

3) See above. There will be no expression of interest to sponsor form for 2021. The 2021 draw will be conducted from the remaining applicants in the 2020 pool.

The requirements for the Winter and September draws are the same tax years so if you didn’t qualify for the EOI last year you likely wouldn’t meet the requirements for the upcoming draw anyways.
