Discrepancies between letter of reference and duties performed

Hi All,

I was hired as a translator in SK but the letter of reference indicates that I was doing administrative duties. I was thinking about complementing that with my offer of employment, which clearly states a full list of duties of the position. Here is an extract:

- Maintains accurate and on-time reports and records relative to the service department’s operation within the dealership through;
- opening work orders,
- processing warranty and Product Improvement claims,
- maintaining Service Department records,
- updating customer profiles,
- maintaining department accessories and supplies and
- preparing Technician efficiency reports. This position shall also have a requirement for translating and interpreting Spanish to English and English to Spanish languages.

I have 2 questions:
1. Should I enquire my manager to include these list of duties in the letter of reference?
2. Can I apply under NOC 1241 Administrative Assistant instead of 5125 Translator, Terminologist and Interpreter? My work permit was issued only for that occupation.

Thank you.

Oh geez, I thought you were on a PGWP, not a closed work permit. Since you were not authorized for NOC 1241, you don't want to apply with that NOC. But it's a mystery why your duties are so different from your NOC... did your employer change the job description after obtaining an LMO? I'm sorry to say, this is a bit of a problem...

My suggestion would be to take a look at the duties and responsibilities under 5125, and see if you can re-write your duties and responsibilities highlighting emphasizing those aspects; it's ok to have "other administrative duties as required," or something like that, as long as the majority of duties align with 5125. Then ask your employer for a new letter.

Otherwise - apart from the lack of authorization, your job duties in your current letter simply do not match 5125 - so the experience probably would not be counted.

I don't know how he obtained the LMO but I was given 2-year wp from the company. I was thinking the same too, to rewrite those duties so they can fit in the ones related to NOC 5125. Good call I haven't sent my manager an email yet. First I want to be sure I'm on the right track.

Once I'm done I'll post them here for any feedback.

Thank you jes_ON.
