Hi there,

Looks like my mother require an UK 'Direct Airside Transit Visa' for her to travel back to India (via Heathrow by BA), after her stay in Toronto with me. We had her 'visitor visa' extended after her initial 6 months of stay. I heard from my friend that this(Direct Airside Transit Visa) is required because she does not have a valid 'return date stamped' on her Indian passport (as she had been staying for more than 6 months, though with an approved extension document). I have few questions:

1. First of all, is it accurate?.Does the 'Approved' extension document sent by CIC with her 'New' valid date of stay not enough? for her transit in UK.
2. Can we get around with this transit visa thing if she gets her Passport stamped with new valid date?.
2.1 Is it possible to get the passport stamped at all?

What options do I have?. I kindly request for some guidance and truly appreciate it.

The UK exempts her from DATV requirement only if her transit is less than 6 months from her most recent entry to Canada. Since she has been in Canada longer than this and there is no passport stamping of the extension even if this were to work the airline won't likely take the risk (huge carriers fine) unless the UKBA liaison officer at the Canadian departure airport accepts the extension approval but why would they given they can't necessarily vouch for the authenticity of a paper compared to an endorsed stamp. Check with the airline and if its an issue work on re-routing her via another hub such as Amsterdam.
