Have the following query:

I am married and my husband would be travelling to the US for higher
studies this year( 2 year course). I am working as a programmer analyst in India and planning to apply
for PR for Canada soon

1) Should I apply for m husband now only or should I apply for my PR only at this stage and later on apply for him?

2) Provided that we apply together and get a PR, can he travel for a short period of duration say 1 week to canada and then
go back and continue his studies?

Could anyone please guide as to what will be the best to do in our case

Hi Sim,

In which category will u apply for PR ?

also yes, both of you can apply together , after getting your PR , you can travel to Canada for a week , finish landing formalities and go back anywhere you want however remember to retain the PR you must come back to canada to meet the '2 out of 5' years requirement.

Thanks,
Rahul

In case I wish to apply for my husband later, once I get the PR, how much time does it normally tke to get a PR later for spouse.
The reason we are considering this option is, in case he's not able to take time off his studies and join in the given time duration.

Also, do we get the points for spouse even if you apply for yourself alone?

you should read the points table just to make sure but i think its says, points for accompanying spouse.

they don't use the word accompanying for the education part but then at the bottom of the table, they state:

You can only count points from each category once. You can claim points from a category either for you, or for your spouse or common-law partner, but not for both.

the duties of a programmer analyst may not be covered under NOC 0213's description. Pls check before applying.

I guess I know which company you work for. send me a PM, if you want to discuss this offline.

If you apply for your husband as well, it may take a year to get the visa, he may have almost a year after the visa to "land" and after landing, he has to stay 2 years in Canada in his first 5 year period as PR. If his studies will take so long that he will not make that, you can list him as non-accompanying and sponsor him later. Sponsoring a spouse can take 5-10 months or so.
