Hi Friends
I'm a 2016 mechanical engineering graduate (B.E) with 61% in V.T.U from Bangalore. I have been accepted to Sheridan College, Brampton for a 1 year post graduate diploma in Manufacturing and Management for the Sept 2017 intake. My post grad program is a 8 months classroom program with 4 months of Co-op (so in total 12 months). I was suppose to go this Jan 2017 but since my Visa was delayed (Just got it stamped this Feb 2017), I have deferred my intake. Now I have a dilemma whether to study in Canada because of the following reasons
1) Since my program is of 8 months, I will receive an 8 month PGWP. Upon some research online I found out that it's difficult to get a work permit after the expiry of my PGWP as the employer would have to sponsor me and get a positive LMO (Labour Market Opinion). The process of getting LMO will take about 3-4 months, given that I have an 8 month PGWP out of which 4 months would have passed as I would be doing my Co-op at that time. Is it practical to find an employer given that I have just 4 months of my PGWP remaining to sponsor my work permit ?
2) A family friend had suggested that I apply for a PR under CEC or PNP (Ontario) and continue to work under implied status. But under the PR requirements it says that a 1 year min Canadian work experience is required. This is not possible as my PGWP would expire by the time I have 1 year of work experience. Is this a possible option ? Can I apply without having a year of work experience ?
3) The most obvious choice would be to go for a 2 year program but its not possible for me as I don't have the funds for a 2 year course.
Can anybody suggest me solution, people who have gone for a 1 year post grad diploma can you please share your experience with me in getting a work permit or getting a PR.
Thank you in advance for the reply.
