Hi,

I have to send my passport copies to Sydney, Australia to finalize my visa which will arrive there on Jun 1.

My COPR is only valid until Jun 10, I think this is when I got my medical done which is why it's so close.

Will they email me a digital document so that I can land in Canada, as the deadline might be tight if I actually have to obtain the physical approval.

Thanks

No. It's a two part document with a real photograph attached to one of the sheets. It's also much longer paper than stock A4 or letter, so you couldn't print it out anyway.

They will most likely extend the medical or they will ask you to redo the medical (most likely extend it if they requested you to send your passport)

As mentioned there is no such thing as a digital COPR. It's a physical copy only and needs to be mailed to you.

I hope you mean you sent your passport photocopy to the visa office, and not your actual passport? Since you are visa-exempt, sending actual passport should not be required.

Hopefully VO will extend your medicals, however there have indeed been cases of people receiving COPRs in the mail that expired in a couple days or were already expired upon receipt. These involved reaching out to VO to re-issue new COPR (and a month or 2 of delays waiting).

Hi Rob_TO

I sent photocopies of all pages of my passport, 2 photos; an updated information sheet as per the instructions from the CIC in Sydney.

I've provided them with a 2-4 business day pre-paid satchel and sent them both an email and included a cover letter explaining the situation, asking for a possible extension and that if documents are not mailed from Australia by Weds 3rd June it's going to be physically impossible for me to land before the COPR expiry because I won't have the documents.

I found an older thread here if this helps anyone for the future:

canadavisa.com/

canada-immigration-discussion-board/confirmation-of-permanent-residence-arrived-with-valid-to-date-already-expired-t172840.0.html

I separated it, as it won't let you post links.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Hi,

Sydney contacted me Tuesday 2nd June and said they had my prepaid satchel but said they couldn't find the rest of my documents. I emailed them back immediately providing them with the tracking number - once again - and the name and time it was signed for by their office the day before on Monday 1st of June. I called them twice and spoke to the temp receptionist, I got through very quickly, if you call Sydney just press 0 and you go to reception, they take your Application No. and look into it, I never got to speak to my VO but told my messages were passed on. My VO emailed me back saying docs have been found and sent me a scan of the waybill of my COPR. They didn't say whether they extended the landing date but it should be here by the 8th June to land by the 10th.

I'm fortunate enough to be in Canada so I can do a border run when it arrives, if I was still at home overseas I would have had to drop everything and get a last minute flight, or I guess request an extension if they mailed it out without one. I'll let you know if they automatically gave me some extra time when it arrives.

They didn't give me extra time. It arrived on June 9th and I hired a car and went straight to the border to land before the 10th June.

You health card isn't issued for 3 months so I won't get mine until Sept 9th. Border agents were fine with flag poling and they said 6-8 weeks for my PR card which still isn't here.

Good luck everyone, if anyone has any questions let me know. I'll probably be browsing the forum for a few days.

Current PR card processing time is 84 days, so you still have 3-4 weeks before you will receive your card.

Thanks,

I'm in no rush for the PR card to arrive to my Canadian address. The waiting times were different on June 9th; it was over 9 weeks ago I landed, unless they're counting business days.

The whole process from application received to PR took 7 months, so I'm pretty happy with that considering wait times. It'll end up being just under half of that to get the PR card, you'd think that would be the easy bit!

As far as I know if I wanted to go on holiday the CBSA agent said it was registered in their database on both my British and Australian passports. He even stamped both for me even though I applied on my AU, he initially stamped my GB passport as it had longer validity. I asked him to do the other one as that's what I applied on, he said it didn't matter and stamped both.

The waiting time when you landed doesn't apply. The current posted time applies to everyone waiting for a card. It's at 84 days, meaning that they are right now processing cards for those who landed around May 21st.

If you leave Canada, you can return on the strength of either of your passports as if you were a visitor.
