Hey there,
I am re-posting my question here because I am still waiting the answer.
Is there a difference between RCMP and CSIS background check, on my CAIPS they have mentioned that my RCMP background check is done, along with the relation is genuine and interview waived, what does this mean? my background is done?? I have provided them with local police clearance, FBI and State clearance as well.
Supposedly I am waiting my passport request letter, but in the same time scared that I am still under the background check, after all I am Lebanese, Ok , I am a women, but Lebanese, and from post over this forum I have noticed that they tend to make long background check for Lebanese because of the war and all the bla bla..
Waiting the answer please.
NB. This forum was wayyyy more helpful than my lawyer answering my question..:)) even that he is in immigration filed since 20 years and take lot of money..:))

An RCMP check would be a criminal record check. They will check their data bases to find if you have any convictions or something similar. The CSIS background check is more thorough. They (with the assistance of law enforcement agencies from each country you lived in, I believe) will check to see if you are a threat to national security. In your case they may check to see if you or your family members were involved in any conflict.

Thank you james M for your reply,
But my main question is: " RCMP background check is done" means: "My background check is done" ?
or the CSIS will do another background check, even that I provide them with a local , FBI and State clearance, and I only lived in Lebanon and 9 month in USA.Concerning being involoved in any conflict...no one in my family and even in my far relative was even in the national army...:)) so no fear there...
I am sorry I am a little bit nagging here but I am just gotten sick of all this process

As far as I can tell, they mean that the RCMP criminal record check is done. Not the CSIS check.

if so, do you know how the CSIS do her background check, does she take in consideration the clearance I Have submited or she do her own investigation.

Hey Rorita.. I was under the impression that RCMP checks were for someone living in Canada.. I don't understand why you went through one? Maybe it was a keying error on their side. Perhaps was meant for the CSIS check? Hopefully PMM might have some more info for you.

Your CAIPS notes should indicate whether your background checks are done. Under "STATUS" there are two columns "SEC" and "CRIM".

In the last last CAIPS notes I requested, under the CRIM section it states "1" which I believe indicates a pass on the criminal checks. Under "SEC" it is blank. I assume that once his background checks are complete that section will state "1" as well.

The RCMP does not conduct the background/security inquiries, it is CSIS. CSIS may request information from them. I'm not sure why or by whom RCMP checks were requested in your case if you haven't lived in Canada :S

Check your CAIPS again.

Boncuk and Azadi, thank you for your reply.
the issue is that the CAIPS are with my husband and not under my hand (84 pages double, it will take lot of money to send..). I will tell him Azadi about what you reply to me, how to read the CAIPS. I have the CAIPS list of code and their meaning.
This is excatly what I am debating in my head about, the CSIS must say background check done and not RCMP...I never were in canada, unless going in a trip over the boat in Detroit river and seeing windsor from far is counted..:))).
After all their are humain been, right..:)) so they can make typing error instead of CSIS they typed RCMP, right Boncuk..??

No, I just got the CAIPS note, not my whole file...thank God.
I was checking the official site of CSIS , you have provide on the other post and I read that CSIS is the one who do the background check, not RCMP.

Immigration and Citizenship Screening
CSIS provides security advice on immigration and citizenship matters to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
CSIS provides security screening on Canadian visitor visa applicants and prospective immigrants in cases where the applicant's background presents security concerns, based on a determination performed in cooperation with CIC officers posted abroad.
CSIS provides CIC with security assessments on applicants for Canadian citizenship, and advises CIC of any security concerns relating to a particular application.

I will ask my husband re-read the CAIPS with the lawyer, to be sure what is going on..

I also sometimes wonder whether I'll be mentally stable by the time this ordeal is finished :) Unlike you, I don't know if I'll be so charitable :)

I wonder if I'll feel a great urge to write to CSIS to ask for an update at the end of each month as a stress reliever or send e-mails to the Embassy to ask for generic status updates :)

I can understand you Azadi very well...
I want to ask your opinion about something, does sending an inquiry to the embassy from time to time to ask about update about my file, will make them made (...and we don't want that to happen, right..) .
I have send them the document they want (FBI and State clearance, my husband new work firm paper, our apartment lease, paid for the PRF, letter from my husband about our re-establishing plan) , and they have received them May-10-2009. Our lawyer send them an email in May-12-2009, asking them if they can make the process faster because of the security treats in Lebanon and asking if they need any other paper or document, they have replied within 12 Hours..witch is waouuu and said that my file under review and if they need new document, we will be contacted.
He resend another email in May25-2009 or so, asking updated and referring to the high security treat back then on Lebanon (there were talk about war) , witch themselves were talking about on their site and asking their citizen to be careful and against non necessarily travel to Lebanon.
Till today they did not reply, my husband has the intention to send a new email this week, but I think we need to wait a little and not bother them very much, what do you think?
Concerning the CSIS, I will make my husband re-read the CAIPS and see it, and we are planning to fax the CSIS since we have this chance to make sure my background check is done.
About writing my experience later on, well it is like my way to be grateful for all the help I got on this forum, by helping other who are starting this long dilemma...

Rorita,

I don't think your file is undergoing further background checks because if that had been the case, the Embassy would have replied to your lawyer that they are awaiting the results of your background checks and once those are received they would be in a position to continue processing your application. It's an easy way to pass the buck to another agency. Instead, they said that your file is being reviewed which to me just suggests that they are doing their administrative thing to wrap it up.

I really don't know whether writing them frequent emails upsets them, annoys them or if they're indifferent to it. I've been struggling with this myself since the last time I heard from the Embassy was on May 28th and I was hoping they would've made a decision by now. I wrote an e-mail last Thursday desperately trying not to sound desperate and just provided my husband's contact info again but MOnday is over and we still haven't heard anything. I want to write them again but I know I have to be more patient.

We have to remember that the Embassy is dealing with many files and we just have to wait our turn. It's just that nearing the end of the process time moves so slowly and one is constantly preoccupied with this so it is difficult to put the waiting period in perspective. I have to remind myself that we've only been waiting for 11 days to hear from the Embassy for a decision.
