Difference between a TRV and a Study Permit??(Senior member plz participate)

Study permit is what allows you to stay in Canada...you cannot live in Canada on a visa or TRV...

Visa can be issued for any period of time but study permit not necessarily...I know a guy who got a TRV for one year single entry and got a study permit for three....

Usually when you have validity on the passport the embassy grants you visa for over a certain time from the expected length of study... say 3 or 4 months or even 8 months but will that case be different if one wishes to extend the visa while in Canada, heard they only give it till the date of completion and then there won't be any time left to apply for the PR

even if u extend u may get the extra time and more over u may have PGWP after studies right? i dont know ur profile but normally u will apply for work permit wont u?

yes ur right visa is for entry and study permit is to stay in canada..how ever if your passport expires while you are in Canada, all your Canadian immigration documents will normally expire at the same time. hence study permit wont be more than passport validity.....

so u may get 2-3 years work permit after ur studies which is ample time for PR .....

I have been asked by the CIC to submit my passport within 30 days, well 29 now.. and get a passport renewal in that time frame is very risky these days ... there is a lot of load on the passport dept and a whole lot of delays...

Is it mandatory to be in Canada in order to apply for PGWP??

See guys the thing going on in my head is that what if they renew my study permit till only the completion of my degree and after that i will have no choice but to leave Canada.

and degree completion is mandatory for apply to PGWP...

How will that work then :-[ ?

i dont think u have any option .....yes u will have to apply for study permit renewal after u renew ur passport if u dont finish u studies by then...u may be able to finish studies by aug 2015 if u start in fall 2013...

Exactly my studies should be complete by Aug 2015 which like 5 months over the validity of my passport, now will they issue me a study permit for 5 months or may be more? I know only they can answer that question but if there is anyone who went through the same process?

Hi,

They will issue you study permit for 1 day also.
You can't even study 1 day without status in Canada.
