Hello Everyone,

It's been an ongoing struggle for me regarding these two NOC codes since they seem SO close to each other. I am not sure why CIC make them B and C, which makes a huge difference for P.R application.

Can anyone tell me the main differences between these two positions???

Thanks!!!!...

A clerk is more like a secretary, who's got not much responsibility and does the talks delegated to her/him. An assistant stands right between the clerk and the manager actually assisting the manager with greater responsibility, who might also have a say in some decisions or can give advice.

I would say the ladder is like that

Manager / Administrator > Administrative Assistant > Clerk

I don't know exactly. It might depend in which kind of job environment you worked in. Let's say, if you only worked at the desk and had not very close contact with the management and decision makers, then you might have been a C-level. If you, however, also attended meetings frequently with the decision makers and constructively assisted them and maybe even took over some of their duties they delegated to you, then it's probably a B-level with more responsibility. As an assistant you may also accompany your bosses, managers, etc. outside of the company, e.g. when visiting a client. As a clerk, you simply sit at your desk doing what you're being told and it's probably not as much fun and challenging. :D

Thanks for you explanation OhWow!

could you take a look at this and tell me how you feel...

So I work in a non-profit Language Centre that is actually funded by the Federal Government. I work at the front desk, perform most of the receptionist duties. But i also work closely with Admin Supervisors and Managers and provide admin support to them. I also am like a super user for our organizational data base so I train people with the use of the system as well.

I kinda find myself floating in between the two positions that's why I am confused...

Since you also train staff and seem to have way more responsibilities than just keep the office running in terms of filling up supplies, I would go with 1241 Administrative assistants, which is a B-level. NOC 1241 clearly mentions that the training of staff members is part of the job. You need to be clear about your duties in your letter of employment to avoid exactly this confusion.

May supervise and train office staff in procedures and in use of current software.

Thanks for your prompt reply!!!

I guess I need to be very careful with the reference letter. Just hope the VO will accept my NOC claim...

Thanks again!

NOCs are confusing. I still don't understand why we should make the decision which NOC applies. But immigration officers can make just as many mistakes in choosing the right NOC as we do. We are all human. Unfortunately, our lives depend on it.

i guess if we pick our own NOC it would be easier for VO to decide weather it's correct or not. Less work for them, more work/risk/worry for us.
