Difference b/w SPP, Generic and University Student permit?

Hi,
I know it's a basic question which one ought to know especially since we are thinking of applying for a canadian visa. But it confuses me because here in the forum, I am coming across many applicants plainly changing their categories under which they are applying if they get rejected by one category.
This may be a useful information for people who hv newly joined this forum. I tried to extract te info from vfs but they prefer to remain silent on this (dont know why) and suggested me i contact my grad coordinator and ask which category i come under.
Anyway,please do enlighten me as it may help me too as a future student! i appreciate your response.

if ur indian then u have 3 choices
1)SPP category: to be eligible to apply under SPP category u need to be enrolled in SPP college(universities r not eligible)
more information here. if ur rejected the first time under SPP u cannot apply again under SPP.

2)general category: if u first applied for SPP and were rejected or if u dont qualify for SPP and are a college applicant then u can use general category.

3)university category: if u have applied to a canadian university then u use university checklist.

2.Generic is if an applicant is applying to a college outside SPP list
3.University well because its university,could be private or public!
So,the SPP and college categories can still be tried for students lying in either of these categories but university applicants can't apply to the college category ! But , each university has schools for different department coming under them. What about them?

or have been rejected visa under SPP first time.

To add;

1. You can use SPP only once in a lifetime.
2. If you have been refused earlier under generic/university, you can't use SPP (even if its your first time).

I am applying online ... but it does not mention if we are applying under university category or general category ... Is there some where we need to mention it or m i missing something ??

After you fill the questionnaire, the list that is generated is a common list for all the categories and is the bare minimum documents needed.
It is later when they ask for the additional documents is what depends on your category. I am not sure how they call for the documents if applied online( i have done paper submission) but through the threads i have come across, they will ask for it later.

Thanks Aparna ... I see u have applied through VFS Mumbai..26/6 .. i am also planning to apply by next week as my meds are scheduled 2morow .. did u do the meds up front ??

What happens if I fill the spp form but my offer letter is from university??
