Didn't tick yes for reported 44(1) question in PR renewal application

I got my PR in Jan 2014 but landed in Canada in July 2017 after completing my bachelor's degree. I got my PR in the middle of my degree through my father. I was obviously stopped as I am short by a few months by the time I landed in Canada. The officer stopped me and asked me a couple of questions. She asked me to come back next day as the senior officer is not in that day to make a final decision. I went back the next day where I was asked a couple of more questions about my ties to Canada. The senior officer decided positively and just told me to apply for renewal after 2 years. He didn't give me any documents at that meeting.

I was cleaning up documents from the last few years when I saw two papers with report 44(1) and the next day's meeting I was talking about which was actually a hearing with a senior officer. I completely forgot about this till today with everything that went down that day. I was given these two documents the first day. I ticked the option as 'No' when applying for renewal of my PR card for the question 'are you reported under 44(1)?' I know this is completely my fault and I am planning to send a letter to the officer who is going to look at my file with the correct information. Should I be doing that without consulting a lawyer before?

I think you should consult lawyer to be on the safe side. Everyone here may have an opinion, but I think your case requires professional help.

You should be updating your information via webform but looking at you previous posts it seems as you weren't reported.. Did you apply for PR card renewal from Canada and are compliant with your RO? I don't understand how you got your PR in 2014 but only landed in 2017. That's not possible. You need to land to receive PR.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. We landed in 2014 Jan but I went back to complete my studies. I could only come back in July 2017 after finishing my degree. I have been in Canada ever since.

If you 'saw two papers' with reference to this report 44(1), you need to look at exactly what they say. We can speculate about what it means but it's a bit silly when you can look at what's written on them. Share the relevant/key parts of the text without your personal information if you want feedback / comments here.

On the positive side, I think it's fair to say that the circumstances under which this would represent a serious problem are narrow and you probably would know it and/or have heard from IRCC since (i.e. situation where they decided to start process of revoking your status and notified you of period to appeal, etc). But to be certain you need to look at the actual text.

Other positive point, if as it seems they did not proceed with that formal process and the rest as you describe above (eg in-country since july 2017), you should have enough days to not only get PR card but also apply for citizenship (assuming meet other requirements).

This is just my take but why not look to apply for citizenship? I agree with armoured, we would need to know what the documentation you received says to know what your status is currently, and you'd need to tell us if you've fulfilled your residency obligations.
