If you don't want to move till summer 2013 you should try and withdraw your application and submit later. Because your PR will be expired before then most likely.

Couldn't she just go, land, and then go back and finish up what she needs to do? She's in the US so it wouldn't be that time consuming or expensive. Can't people give a Canadian mailing address and then have those people mail them the PR cards if they arrive before they have officially moved to Canada?

As long as her spouse is with her outside Canada it counts towards his his residency requirements..so it should be okay.

What? Really? So if the Canadian sponsor and PR are living together abroad, that counts towards the 2 years out of 5??

Its true.. well apparently the 2/5 rule doesn't count towards spouses (but that I am not sure of)

This is what it says about residency obligations:

Time spent outside of Canada

You may also count the days spent outside of Canada in the following circumstances as days for which you satisfy the residency obligation:

OPTION 1. Accompanying a Canadian citizen outside Canada

You may count each day that you accompanied a Canadian citizen outside Canada provided that the person you accompanied is your

* spouse or common-law partner or
* parent, if you are less than 22 years of age

Evidence that you are accompanying a Canadian citizen
You must provide supporting documents to prove that:

* The person you are accompanying is a Canadian citizen; and
* You are the spouse, common-law partner or child of that person.

Supporting documents may include:

* marriage licence
* child's birth certificate, baptismal document, and/or adoption or guardianship document
* school and/or employment records
* association or club memberships
* passports or other travel documents
* documents indicating the status of the person you are accompanying

I am speaking about residency though, after one becomes a PR.

Hope this helps!

Wow...that's great. So even if we travelled or moved to another country (which we are not planning to do!), my wife would still fullfil the residency obligation. Cool.

After this long and frustrating process, there is no way we will do anything to jeopardize my wife's PR status. After 3 years, my wife will take the citizenship test and hopefully become a citizen. We only want to settle down, once and for all, in Canada!

Thanks for the info and link, mc1234!

And after my wife gets her citizenship, I NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER want to deal with CIC! again!!!! Seriously, NEVER!!!

This is the one and only sponsorship I will ever do...never will I put myself through something like this again...it's the most ridiculous system I have ever encountered...and to think Canada is a 'developed' country!!! The way this process works, you'd think you were dealing with a developing country...

CIC really ought to get their house in order...it's embarrassing!

So very true.. I am very frusterated with them and the whole system. I know in the end it will be worth it and thats what keeps me going.

Planning end of May or early June
I don't want to withdraw it and then have to explain why I withdrawed it cause in 1999 we already abandoned the application once when we were both in TO but ended up moving to Oregon where spouse's family is. I don't want to see back and forth w/our decisions. But if we can at least land when the weather is spring/summer, that'll be good cause we plan to haul our stuff cross country from Oregon to Ontario....I haven't called CIC-M by the way yet, I am going to call on Fri when I will be uninterrupted by my kids since my husband is off that day. Trying to make an important call with a 5 months old, 4 years and 6 years old is a feat in itself, lol.
