Diagnosed with Bipolar type 2 after e-coPR

Hello,

I received my e-CoPR on February 6th. Since late 2022, I had been struggling with severe insomnia, which worsened during my PR application in mid-2023. Despite seeing several doctors in Canada, they all misdiagnosed it as anxiety. Given the challenges with healthcare services here, I decided to travel to my home country. There, a specialist quickly diagnosed me with bipolar disorder after just two appointments.

I’ve been here for the past two months and am now doing much better. However, I am worried that this diagnosis might affect my citizenship application. Could you please advise?

The only effect a health issue can have on an application (apart from, say, special accommodations to take oath outside Canada in some rare cases) would be if an applicant cannot pass the citizenship test and need a waiver : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/eligibility/waiver.html

Apart from that, no, your condition will not be part of the decision-making process at all. Don't worry about it.

I am so srry to hear that, most of people struggled sometime during their immigration journey, including me.. but answering your question, it does not affect your app for citizenship in any way as you don't need to provide any medicals. Jist make sure you're eligible and apply after a month or so you complete the required 1095 days. Take care
