Hi all,

I am 32 years old and recently diagnosed diabetic (type II). Can I apply for Canadian immigration under federal skilled workers category?

Regards

Faisal.

Hi Faisal

Who isn't diabetic these days ? I think drugs and/or insulin is OK but obviously if you are going to cost them more than they think you will produce for Canada then obviously not. My GP said not to worry - but advised me to tell the truth as lying is more serious. I think they are more concerned about transmissable disease or seriously incapicitating illnesses.

Good luck !

p.s. Canada is changing. The people are lovely as ever but on my last visit I was stopped everywhere because I am East Indian. Fair enough, security is important, but I was thrown in a cell for a night by a redneck cop because my name is similar to someone on a no fly list. So I'm having second thoughts anyway.

Some news show, 60 minutes or something did a show on the no fly list and they talked to a group of ppl who all had the same name, a pretty common name too, all different races, skin tones, hair color, age so they obviously could not all have looked like whoever was on the no fly list and had used that name as an alias but they'd all had problems flying, some even considered changing their names. Apparently once your name is on the no fly list, you will always have problems no matter what.

Getting pretty far off topic here but as for diabetis and other illnesses, Canada doesn't want anybody that will be a burden on their health care system. Where they draw that line, I don't know. You will just have to apply and see what they say.
