Detroit is so slow!

I sent my application on 13th Oct. It arrives at 14th, Oct at noon.
Visitor, single entry
I have no information back until now.
My friends told me that normally I can get visa in 2 or 3 weeks since they applied before.
I was planning to visit Canada during thanksgiving but I think I cannot make the trip.
The biggest problem is that it is so inconvenient for us foreigners without passport in US since the only ID we have is passport.
So anyone has similar timeline with me? Did you guys get your passport?

Same situation here. Mine arrived yesterday, but because of some change of plan, I really need the visa by thanksgiving. This trip is for business. Is there any thing we can do to speed up the process?

Can I go to their office, get the application back, and then apply in person?
