and just to make sure--- we *must* include the proof of medical exam and FBI report in the complete packet right??

I've heard the medical exam was suppose to happen upon receiving a letter telling you to go through with it... I dont want to book it and then have to redo it a few months down the road because its no longer valid...

It was my understanding that the medical exam needs to be done prior to submitting your app, along with your FBI check. I did the medical exam that way, but somehow missed the fact to include FBI check. Needless to say, received a letter in December asking for the FBI doc and also to pay ROPR Fee. I did it within a week...long story short.....still waiting this very day to hear anything/something back. I would STRONGLY suggest that you have it all done upfront. I'm not sure if there is actual concrete proof, but judging by my experience and those of other's posts, I can only *assume* it could very prolong the process. Again, not fact, just my own thought. It would seem to make sense to me anyway. Again, if you can, do it all up front. All the best to you!

I am just looking into the police report too and Im about to take off to get my fingerprints done. Did you send a state certificate too? I am planning on doing the medical test next week... but Ive heard the FBI check takes about 2-3 weeks for the results that you would attatch in the packet.

What Im worried about is the medical exam....should I wait until I receive the FBI report before doing the medical exam? I wonder because dont they send your medical exam about a week after you take them? Wouldn't they receive my Medical exam and then have no file to attatch it to?

I just dont want it to get lost in the mail because after I receive the FBI report I have to send everything to my husband and then he would send the complete form from Montreal...

I've heard the FBI takes now about 8 weeks or possibly longer, but you'd have to check out their website for further info, don't quote me on this. I did not send a state certificate. I actually went through an FBI-approved channeler for my FBI document. After confirming with CIC that this was ok to do. However, I've read conflicting things on here and would go directly through FBI to be sure. Or, you can call CIC yourself. Guess I will find out shortly, I hope, if it is ok or not.

For the medical, we had ours done about a month or two before we sent our app and everything was ok with it. December, I had "medical received? on e-cas. Don't worry about that.

I think that other streams do wait until they are asked for their meds, but family class does them up front.

With Denver, I scheduled an early morning appointment where they took a urine sample and went over my medical history, and then drew blood (which I hadn't thought to expect and hadn't eaten breakfast, oops). Then they sent me to another place for X-rays on a walk-in basis, which I did right after eating, and had pretty much no wait.

I did the meds a couple weeks after sending off my fingerprints, but I had to fit the trip into my school schedule. If I were in a position to take time off at will, I would have at least waited until the FBI processed my card. As it is, I hope we end up closer to the 20% in 5 months than the 80% in 11, but that's true anyway. :D

I did my medical September 19th and sent my application in on October 28th, and that was fine.

I did my medical in the US, and it consisted of:
Urine test
Blood test
Chest x-ray
Vision test (I forgot my glasses but did okay anyway)
Being poked at a bit (the hammering the knee thing, and also poking at my stomach a bit)
Some general questions (nothing about family history, mostly things like "are you on any long term medications?")

I was also out in about half an hour. When I went back the next week for my urine test, that only took about 5 minutes. The whole thing was pretty painless, even though I normally hate doctor's visits.

My FBI check took ~8 weeks to get back, not using a channeler. I did not include a state certificate.

FBI usually takes 2-3 months. I've asked some people who have gotten PR and they said that's about normal and that's how long mine took as well (My husband is in Canada, applying outland)

As for the medical, my husband said it was quite simple. Everything that was needed was right in the same building so it was convenient for us haha.

Thank you all for your responses.

today I got my fingerprints done but I didnt send them in because I dont think I printed out the apropriate "cover letter."

I followed the link on CIC to the FBI page and printed out the Application Information Form --- is this the cover letter? It doesnt look like one, but I followed every link and this one looked like the closest match.

...or am I actually suppose to write a cover letter?

Also, Muffy, you used a channeler, are they faster?

I'm paranoid my fingerprints will be rejected--I just noticed one of them slightly merges into the neighboring box... ugh!!

have any of you had this happen?

Maybe I should get them redone...

Im so paranoid and stressed to get this done right and as quickly as possible. I miss my love so much =/ How I wish I would have been born in Canada.

First of all, that application was all I sent, didn't seem to have an issue! (Or rather, all my husband sent ahah)

My husband's prints were slightly on the line too, like I said, didn't have an issue as far as that was concerned. Or do you mean the prints are touching each other?

Cheerio-
The channeler was incredibly fast! First time I had it done, I mailed it Monday and I received it back by Tuesday. Because this document was "lost in the mail", I had to have this redone. Because this channeler was located in the same state as I was, I drove there and waited until it was done that day.

Muffy, do you mind to tell me which Channeler did you use, and what type of paper did they send it to you on?

I looked through the whole list of approved channelers and only one has a location near where I live (Fieldprint). I like them because of their convenient location, quick processing times, and the fact I can get free redos if my fingerprints are rejected, but they only offer electronic mailing though. They say they will send the exact letter and could be printed out-- but If I do so, would it be ok to be printed on regular printing paper?

They sent it on watermarked letterhead type paper for security purposes. I used National Background Check. See the link here:
http://www.nationalbackgroundcheck.com/index.php/services/fbi-channeling

They were convenient for me and helpful in answering all of my questions, etc. And timely. Let me know if you have any other questions.

But, again, I have heard from others that you cannot use or they do not advise using a channeler. However, I verified w/ CIC. I will let you know the outcome as soon as I get any update on my app.

Thank you so much for all your input muffy! =)

My husband is calling CIC right now from Canada to verify aswell. I tried calling the buffalo office but they apparently don't accept telephone inquiries. I'm hoping they say yes so that I can go ahead and start making appointments.

How long have you been waiting for so far?

HI Cheerio,
Please let me know what happens after you call. I would be curious, as well. I have been receiving conflicting information depending upon which person I speak with at CIC, so I would be interested to know. I had to submit twice due to first package being "lost in mail". Second submission was received by their offices end of February so I have been waiting since then to hear something. I am hoping it is good news because this waiting is hard to do :)
