Hi all.. Quick question and i am sure this has been discussed many times..

I applied to sponsor my parents in 2010, at that time they had two dependants.. My brother who was 22 years and a full time student dependent on my parents.. And my sister who was 20 and also a full time student dependant on my parents.

Now that the application has arrived are they still eligible for sponsorship? Initially i didn't include them since they are now 26 and 24.. However, my application was returned to me saying that i needed to include everyone on the application who was dependent at the time of the application.

Thanks for your help with this

Your sister was a type A dependent at time of application, meaning she was under 22 years old. Her age and status as dependent was locked in at time you submitted the initial application. So as long as she isn't married or common-law now, she is still a type A dependent and still needs to be included in the app. Whether or not she is still in school today doesn't matter.

Your brother was a type B dependent at time of app, meaning he was 22 or over but was a full time student and dependent financially on your parents. To still qualify today, he will need to have been enrolled full time in school since the app was first submitted, and continue to be enrolled full time until the visa is issued. If he has since stopped schooling, then he is no longer a dependent and should be removed from the application.
