hi everyone. I had a quick question. My uncle wants to apply for PR with his family.

Now assuming it goes well and they get the PR. He doesn’t really want to immigrate but wants his family I.e wife and daughter to settle in Canada.

So my question, are the PRs independent of principal applicant? Can the daughter alone stay in Canada and countinue her studies there? Please note the daughter is a minor at the moment.

The seniors can confirm but what I know for sure, the principal applicant (your uncle) needs to make first landing with his family or before (but not after) and they'll all get PR cards. Once PR cards are issued, they are all equal permanent residents. However, he would need to stay a minimum of 2 out of 5 years in Canada to renew PR or 3 years out of 5 years to apply citizenship.

The previous post has covered the first point. The child, regardless of her immigration status can't just be "abandoned" in Canada on her own as a minor. Once she reaches the age of majority, she can do as she wishes. Her PR status is completely independent of her parents.

Thank you everyone for your inputs. Very helpful. Mostly the mother and daughter will migrate. However, the father does not want to move and is not really keen on settling here or maintaining his PR.

this is the best advice

ask your uncle family to get PR cards and then he can leave canada

PR cards are valid for 5 years

to renew the card minimum stay is 2 out of 5 years

your uncle daughter can live in Canada as much she wants
