Hi,

I received immigration visa (federal skill worker) and PROC documents for myself, my wife and my 3 year old kid, which will expire in August-2011.

At the time of medical examination we all were healthy. Later after 3 months of medical examination we identified that my kid have acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He undergone several intense chemotherapy treatment and now he is in good health. Dr. suggests further 9 months precaution and observation period to prevent disease relapsed. For precaution measure Dr. haven't remove his PORT-A (metal piece) from his chest. He advises us to be removing in November-2011 after completing the waiting period of post therapy.

Q1-Under his medical conditions do we allow to enter into Canada?
Q2-Do I need to disclose my kid medical condition to immigration officer at the port of entry? What are the consequences if I will not disclose it?
Q3-In general what type of questions immigration officer will ask?
Q4-What types of medical tests require for 3 year old kids for obtaining OHIP as well as any private health insurance?
Q5-Are there any specific private health insurance coverage plans available from the day we land?
Q6-Is it possible that I can travel alone and later after his full recovery I will apply for family sponsorship visa? (In that case they will not use their issued immigration visa.)
Q7-I am eligible to enter from any port of entry into Canada, but I am interested to settle in Toronto, so is it good idea to land in Alberta province get the AHIP and later move to Toronto?

Please suggest me with the best of your knowledge and experience. Any other related information and suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.
Faber

I am sorry that you are having to cope with your child's illness within the constraints of immigration timelines and hope that he continues to progress steadily. As far as answering the nitty gritty questions, I am not an expert at all and hope that someone will step up to the plate with the information you need. I would THINK you should inform VO of the health changes, and wonder if there is any documentation that states the same in the OP Manual? Is it likely the doctor will give him clearance to travel before August considering risk of infection, etc? If so, I would think landing in a Province with immediate health care coverage would be your best move as I don't know how many insurance companies will insure pre-existing health problems. I wish you and your family the best of luck with everything.

I dont think you have to mention atall because you get visa after medicals so just land with your family dont tell anything to anyone and give him treatment if he need in future, if you tell VO now they will cancel your visa and will be big trouble. Take my word. good luck.

My thought process is that if this family is unable to land by August 2011, won't they lose their visas? I wondered if there is any leniency in circumstances such as these if the authorities are informed before the expiry date? Surely if the medicals have all been passed they cannot go back on the visa - the family could easily have moved to Canada immediately after the visa issuance and would then have been in the country when the diagnosis was made. Again, I am NOT an expert and I hope bumping this post to the top will invite SENIORS to help out.

You SHOULD INFORM, not doing so can lead to > MISREPRESENTATION > KICK OUT.

There's some buzz going on at the moment in Quebec about a case like that.
