Hi everyone.

This is a terrific site. I am in the process of getting my application sent off for my husband to come and be with me in Canada. But I have some questions about dependent children.

My husband has 2 children from a previous common law relationship. They are 17 and 22. The 17 wants to come with my husband to Canada but the 22 year old doesnt want to come right away.

The 17 year old is a dependent, this much I know. So, I think he needs the photos and the medical but not the police. Is this right?

Im confused about the 23 year old. He has shown interest in coming to Canada after some years but not right away. He is living common law with his girlfriend and is going to have a child soon with her. He is not dependent on his father for support as he is a working university student. Does he have to be included on the application form for permanent residence in Canada IMM0008 Generic or any other forms? If he is not included, will this hinder his chances in the future for getting a visa if he wants....my husband is worried about this. Im worried about having too many applicants on this application and thus delaying the processing time.

And if he is a dependant, but is not accompanying his dad, do we need to get the police/photos and medical done?

to be or not to be....dependent, that is!!! heehee

Please help if you can.....and thanks in advance!!!!

The 23 year old is not a dependent as he is over the age of 22 and is in a common/law relationship. If he wishes to come, he will have to apply as a skilled worker in the future. He has to be included on the IMM 5406 (additional family members) He does not do the medical or criminal records checks.

Yes, even though not accompanying. If the son sends you a letter that he refuses to do the medical or obtain a criminal records check, you include that with the application.
