Hello, I've created this new topic so we can help each other with french exams, in a week i will take the TEFAQ exam for QSW so any advice, mock exams, etc. will be appreciated. I also got a couple tips so if you are interested just post in here. Remember that oficial french exams are the only way to get points for QSW and extra points for FSWP good luch to all!

Hi,

Correct me if I'm wrong, based on 2013 selection grid the points for French go as follow:

Speaking & listening 0 to 7 each
Writing & reading 0 to 1 each


Doesn't that mean that we should take the TEF instead of TEFaq? because TEF evaluates the four skills but TEFaq only evaluates speaking and listening so we can't get the score for writing and reading?

Yes for QSW points as follows:

Speaking (Expression orale B2=5 points, C1 6 points, C2= 7 points)
Listening (Comprehension orale B2=5 points, C1 6 points, C2= 7 points)
Writing ( Expression Ecrit B2,c1 and c2 = 1 point)
Reading (Comprehension ecrit b2,c1 and c2 = 1 Point)

Total maximum 16 points for french for QSW.

I just took last friday the TEFAQ and I took 4 skills they charge me $120 for speaking and listening and $75 por writing plus $75 for reading. Now for TEFAQ you can also take 4 skills that depends on the authorized center (alliance francaise) not in every french alliance is the same.

Hi, if anyone is interested, I took my TEFAQ examen last friday, comprehension écrit was difficult, a loooot of vocabulary, comprehension orale was better, much better (that is what i expect), what I can remember is that there was a part about haircuts, so try to learn how to say "curled" blonde" etc..

For the speaking part of the test there is NO PREPARATION TIME. Years ago they used to give 10 minutes, then they shorted it to one, but now no preparation time. On the first part they asked me to make ten questions about an announce of free conferences, is a role play so my advice is to make questions really quick while you read the subject and while the other person plays the role with you and answers the questions.
The second part was about convincing a friend of your to go find a treasure.

Writing had also 2 parts, the first one was to complete a journal article about a mouse found in the food of a Hospital. The second part was to write a formal letter to a newspaper. A journalist wrote that articles like iPods should be forbidden because they cause deafness you have to support or be against this articles, with 3 arguments.

For the speaking part of the test there is NO PREPARATION TIME. .

This part is new to me, I took that test few years ago for academic reasons and there was a waiting time.. Good to know! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hello! let me answer that:

1. Are we required to show proof that we have attended formal French language class before we can take the exam? No need to show any proff of formal classes, you can take the test with or without that.
2. Is there a requirement for number of hours of French language study? same answer no requirement as long as you pass the test.
3. What's the difference between DELF and TEF Exam? For DELF you take the test for a specific level for example delf B1, b2 etc, for TEF you take a unique test and you may have the possibility to score for example b1 in reading and b2 in listening I took TEFAQ (which is similar to TEF) recently and scored B1 in "Expression Orale" but C1 in "Compresion Orale", in my opinion tef is easier but there is much more study material for DELF, also DELF results (original diploma) takes up to 5 months to arrive, TEF takes half time. DELF is mandatory to take 4 skills with TEF you can choose not to take the non compulsory skills, finally DELF is a lifetime diploma (2 years valid for immigration) but TEF is valid for 1 up to 2 years.
4. Is DELF result accepted for FSW? no it is accepted only for Québec but not for FSW, for the Federal part TEF is accepted.

Hi, finally i got my results but I still don´t have my attestation delivered from France :/ it´s the only thing I am waiting just to send my file.

I got:

Expression Orale: B1
Comprehension Orale: C1
Expression et comprehension ecrit: B1:

That gives me 6 additional points for the C1 CO I will keep improving my french but C1 encourages me
