Dear Friends,

I am in canada on WP which is valid till Jun 2014. Last week i have received the Medical request for myself and my spouse but she is 8 week pregnant. I got to know that during pregnancy her X-ray exam can not be done and she has to undergo after delivery. Now, my questions are:
1. Do we need to inform the CIC about her Pregnancy?
2. As delay in medical examination, can put on hold both of us PR process or as i am a principal applicant it is possible to get my PR.
3. As my WP visa will no longer be valid after Jun and if there is any delay in PR process then are we eligible to stay in canada or we must leave the country to avoid any last minute surprises.

I hope you can help me to get my questions answered....Thanks a lot!!

1. Yes - you should inform CIC that your wife is pregnant and that your wife cannot complete the medical. You should have the medical done now and your wife can have everything done apart from the x-ray. After your wife gives birth, she should then have the x-ray done to complete the medical.
2. Yes - this will delay your application since the application cannot be processed until your wife has completed the medical. No - you as the principal applicant cannot get PR on your own.
3. If you want to stay in Canada after your WP visa expires, then you will either have to extend your work permit or apply to change your status to visitors.

It is worth doing some research into the x-rays --- I am 9 weeks pregnant, awaiting my medical request and on doing my research, decided that I would get the x-rays done, I will wait until during the second trimester though, when it's safer

Thanks Scylla for your reply. For 1) Okay, Do i have to inform them before doing the medical or just send them the email. As we are thinking to do medical next month. Just i am trying to buy some time if we have to go back to home country and then i am assuming it will take more time to add the new born baby in my application. What is your advise on it?
2) Thank you
3) I am not sure if we can able to change the status to visitor as getting Work permit extension seems difficult as i have already spent 4 years on WP in canada under ICT.

IPC 19800, I did research on it and even our family doctor advise to do after 4 months (31st Jan) but as medical request has to be done within 2 months so i have to skip X-ray during medical for my wife. But there is another thing is mostly Immigration doctor will not do the chest Xray during pregnancy. If you are in canada and know about any doctor then advise.

Ujbaby went to the dr in Kitchener, ON - she was in her second trimester. She wore the iron apron and is fine. I think she was at 4 or 5 months. You can delay your wife's medical until she hits 4 months, you don't have to do it after the baby is born.

First of all, congrats on MR and pregnancy !

As a first step, I would suggest you to email CPP-Ottawa and see what they say. We, as forum members, can only provide opinions. Only CIC makes the final call. However, I'm sure that CIC will make considerations about your condition.

I would also suggest you to check with some panel physicians what options you have. As everyone suggested, you can undergo the test without x-ray at this time.

All the best.

I feel there is too much of irrational fear regarding pregnancy and x-rays. I had posted the below comments on a different thread...

I was quite surprised to read most of the posts here which were not based on any scientific explanation but more on the irrartional fear that has been passed around.

A child is in danger only when exposed to radiations higher than 100 mGy. A chest xray exposes the baby to 1.4 mGy, well below the harmful levels. You are exposed to more harmful radiations from the sun than you will be from 1 chest xray. It also depends on the trimester- its more dangerous to do a xray in 1st trimester than the 2nd and 3rd because that is when the cells of the foetus are developing.

So its only a matter of personal choice and comfort to get a xray or not to get one. It has minimal scientific reasoning - i say minimal because if done during the 1st trimester, there could be an issue. The only reason some of the doctors dont agree is to avoid getting sued - for them its not worth the headache.

Thanks Ipc19800... let me try to call immigration doctor and see if any one agree to do Xray once she hit 4 or more month. If they agree then i will go for medical and do the xray later. Please keep me updated if you get any more info.

Yes, most of them are avoiding and they are saying Xray will be done after delivery. Just another question, Is port of entry depends upon the date of medical done or completed? In my case, when they consider my medical is completed when my wife's Xray is done?
