Delay in Criminal Record Check based on fingerprints

Hello everyone

I initiated the process for getting my criminal record check (based on fingerprints) from Canada but it appears they will be getting to me after the 60 day deadline requested by the processing office.

I have already Emailed the office asking what would happen if my document was late to get them but no answer. Any idea of what may happen or what I should do?.

Thanks

are you not in Canada?

Keep CIC informed about the date you applied for the certificate and the estimated response time... Simply ignoring the deadline would be a mistake.

I had the same thing. I emailed to inform them and they eventually responded extending the deadline by 30 days. Sounds like you've done the right thing.

Are you doing the RCMP fingerprint check? If you do online submission you'll get it in a couple of weeks. There are fingerprinting agencies who can do that for you.

I asked where you were because if you are in Canada, you can have electronic fingerprinting done and have results in 3 days.

In fact, since June 1, 2014, electronic fingerprinting is supposed to be the ONLY option. So I don't understand how this will take longer than 60 days. Possibly, CIC won't understand, either:

It may take long time if an applicant has any criminal records.
Oh yeah that's a good point. When I did my RCMP fingerprint, they told me it'd only come back in a few days if no criminal record was found... That plus printing the paper certificate and mailing time is about 10 days. If there is criminal record in the system, I think RCMP has to do something manually and that might take months given the waiting time

Apparently my application DID go to manual check and it'll be taking around 120 days. It is a very unexpected delay for me. Would it be a good idea to purchase "right to permanent residence" now to save some time?

Thanks again folks.

No, that won't save any time. Just inform CIC about this - if you have a copy of correspondence indicating the 120 day processing time, you can send that as an attachment.
